TLDSB celebrated advocacy through the annual Day of Pink Conference

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Positive Space Committee* has hosted an event designed to empower students to oppose hate, bullying, and discrimination through the celebration of International Day of Pink.

This year’s TLDSB Day of Pink Conference took place on April 10 at Archie Stouffer Elementary School. The event welcomed Grade 6 to 8 students from Gay Straight Alliances (GSA) and social justice teams representing elementary schools across the Board.

The morning kicked off with keynote speaker, Martin Boyce, reflecting on his life as a gay man in New York City in the 1960s, and his involvement in the Stonewall Riots, also referred to as the Stonewall Uprising. Following the presentation, students engaged in various workshops, featuring drama exercises lead by Trent University teacher, Rachael Nicholls, and expressive art activities lead by Fleming College graduate, Lexi Hatchey-Chynoweth, and Trent University teacher, Lisa Noble.

A huge thank you to ASES for hosting the event, the TLDSB Positive Space Committee for their work in organizing the conference alongside International Day of Pink, and staff-leads who run their school’s GSA and social justice clubs!
