LINDSAY, ON – On September 26, the Education Quality and Assessment Office (EQAO) released the latest results for school boards in Ontario from the 2023-2024 school year. Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is pleased to share the results Grade 3, 6, 9, and 10 students have made in all assessment areas of EQAO.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am proud of the students for their achievements in EQAO. These results show us that student achievement is being reached through the hard work being done by TLDSB educators, support staff, and administrators,” shared Chair of the Board, Colleen Wilcox.
In the elementary panel, the results for TLDSB Grade 3 reading, writing, and mathematics are all above the provincial average. In Grade 3 reading, writing, and mathematics, and Grade 6 reading, student’s with Individual Education Plans (IEP) are also above the provincial average.
Mathematic scores have continued to grow over the past three years, with 2023-2024 results being eight percent above the provincial average overall. Grades 3 and 6 mathematics scores improved, with a four percent increase in Grade 3, and two percent increase in Grade 6.
“We are proud of the increased achievement in mathematics in Grades 3 and 6 over the past three years and recognize that there are areas of growth, particularly in Grade 6 reading and writing. TLDSB is committed to supporting the system with development opportunities, resources, and hands-on support for student achievement overall,” said superintendent of learning responsible for Kindergarten to Grade 8 Curriculum Services, Jay MacJanet.
There are areas to celebrate in the secondary panel as well. TLDSB Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) scores for students with an IEP are eight percent above the provincial average. In comparison to last year’s results, OSSLT scores remained stable at 84 percent, and there was also a one percent increase in students achieving a Level 4 scoring in Grade 9 mathematics.
“As we continue to work toward personal success for each student across our system, a continued focus on incorporating problem-solving tasks, along with providing direct instruction with deliberate practice, will ensure support for students to be successful,” says superintendent of learning responsible for Grade 9 to 12 Curriculum Services, Kim Williams.
