LCVI hosts annual Trish Peter Spirit Run

On October 10, Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) hosted their annual Trish Spirit Run in celebration of former student, Trish Peter.

Trish was a LCVI student who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 16. She left a lasting impact on the school throughout her time there, being known as a happy, artistic, and athletic teenager, and was even voted valedictorian in her graduating year. Unfortunately, Trish lost her life to cancer on July 30, 2004, at the age of 19.

To honour her impact and battle, LCVI hosted the first annual Trish Peter Spirit Run on October 14, 2004 – an event that has been running annually ever since. In honour of Trish’s favourite colour, pink, students and staff dress up and walk, run, and/or wheel a 2.5 km course through Lindsay. Funds are raised and donated to the Trish’s Wish Foundation, which provides financial assistance and support to families in the City of Kawarth Lakes that are in crisis as a result of a serious illness or injury to a family member who is between the ages of 17 and 25.

The school kicked off festivities on October 3 through an assembly to get all staff and students informed about the activities and excited for the week ahead. A special guest joined the assembly, Wynn, who is a future LCVI Spartan and cancer survivor. Wynn spoke about her battle with cancer over the past year.

Then, on October 10 the school started the morning on the field with a relay race, followed by the walk/run. Once students and staff gathered back at the school, they enjoyed a barbeque lunch, and some attended a rugby game against Fenelon Falls Secondary School and a basketball game against I.E. Weldon Secondary School.

“The spirit and sense of community that LCVI embodies for this event is outstanding,” said LVCI principal, Lisa Uuldriks. “I am humbled by the generosity of our students to this worthy cause. We were able to donate over $4,600 to Wynn and her family.”
