The Haliburton Adult and Alternate Education Centre (AAEC) is located in the County of Haliburton and offers a variety of programs. Supported by caring and dedicated teachers, students will achieve their goals and be on the path towards a successful graduation.
Co-operative Education (co-op) is offered from September to June of each year and allows students who are employed in a paid or unpaid position the opportunity to earn one high school credit for every 110 hours of work.
Course eligibility
To be eligible for co-op, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Dual Credits allow students to earn a high school and college credit at the same time. The Dual Credits program runs various times throughout the year and is an excellent way to sample college, while working towards your secondary
school diploma.
Course eligibility
Students must take a high school credit course at the Adult and Alternate Education Centre to be eligible.
Maturity credits may be awarded to students who entered Grade 9 prior to September
1999. Students may be eligible to receive equivalency credits from their work and life
experience.
How many maturity credits can I earn?
Students may be eligible for up to 12 maturity credits.
Do I have to complete any courses?
A mature student must still complete a minimum of four Grade 11 or Grade 12 credits after becoming a mature student. These credits must include a senior English. Students
will also undergo a maturity credit assessment, which will tell how many more credits are
needed.
How do I qualify for a mature student assessment?
Students will complete a Maturity Credit Assessment Form at the Bracebridge Adult and
Alternate Education Centre. Students are required to provide a copy of their resume and
last school transcript.
Maturity Credits availability: Year-round (continuous intake).
Online credit courses can be completed from home or at any of the six Adult and Alternate Education Centres between September and June of each year.
Course eligibility
To be eligible for online courses, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is a faster way for mature students to acquire credits towards their high school diploma. The PLAR program can grant credits
based on life and work experience, as well as grant equivalent credits for the successful
completion of assessments in english, math, science, geography, and history.
Course eligibility
The Return, Earn and Learn (REAL) Program allows students to earn credits towards their high school diploma at their own pace. Students may work out of course booklets with
the assistance of a teacher in-class.
Course eligibility
To be eligible for the REAL Program, students must be at least 16 years of age.
