Gravenhurst Public School hosts a Winter Warm Up family event

On February 19, Gravenhurst Public School (GPS) hosted a Winter Warm Up family event, bringing together students, staff, and local organizations for an evening centred on community engagement and diverse learning opportunities.

The event featured a broad range of cross-curricular activities designed to showcase student work and encourage family participation.

The evening kicked off with a live performance by the GPS Choir, followed by indoor winter art stations, family-oriented games, and a photobooth. Attendees also utilized the school’s outdoor space for snowshoeing and a Book Walk, which integrated literacy with physical activity.

The GPS Parent Council facilitated a pizza dinner, a hot chocolate station, and bake sale to support ongoing school initiatives.

Beyond school-led programming, several local partners were on-site to provide valuable outreach. The Gravenhurst Fire Department offered tours of their tanker truck, giving students a firsthand look at emergency equipment. Additionally, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit hosted an interactive table, sharing health and wellness resources with parents/guardians. The event also featured a dedicated section for mental health resources, and an opportunity to meet the school’s mental health councillor. Families were engaged with interactive games and took home practical tools designed to support student and family well-being.

“The Winter Warm Up successfully demonstrated the strength of the GPS community, offering a practical and enjoyable way for families to connect with the school and local service providers,” expressed GPS vice-principal, Michael Kirkpatrick.

Thank you to the GPS Parent Council and staff for organizing such a wonderful community event!
