City of Kawartha Lakes schools host winter carnival

To embrace the winter weather, two elementary schools in the City of Kawartha Lakes recently hosted winter carnivals.

Each day-long event created a carnival experience for all students by having outdoor stations that students rotated through, each highlighting a different winter physical activity.

On February 21, Parkview Public School held their carnival where all students participated in eight different winter activities, including potato sack races, obstacle course, snowshoeing, snow bowling, reindeer toss, snow sculptures, and human foosball. At the final station, students were able to warm up, relax, and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. The school’s intermediate students were responsible for organizing and running each station in order to further develop their leadership skills.

The Dunsford District Elementary School event took place on February 27. Students were put into teams with various age groups and an intermediate student as their leader. Each team then rotated through stations, including broomball, three man ski race, toboggan races, tug of war, and sack races. Students also had the opportunity to enjoy hot chocolate and pancakes, and even take part in a horse and sleigh ride, thanks to Mr. Starr.
